A Case for Compassion
[//]: # Is this worded too harshly? This is meant for non-vegans. We're not writing an expo for other vegans to read. Hmmm...
When a society becomes morally sick, it takes the healthy to bring the ill back into good conscience. It should not be required to explain that other beings have complex {{thoughts, emotions}} and are deserving of our love and care. {{ something about our young ones and how they are affected, like maybe "Our children deserve to be nurtured and are seeing {{rampant abuse?? where am I going here???}}" }}
{{something about how it relates to eating non-humans}}. The lie that we are required to consume their flesh has made us accept that "it's a necessary evil" when in reality it is not only necessary but detrimental to our physical well-being and karma.
Why Consider Veganism? -- It Benefits All Of Us!
It's Better For You
Time and time again a plant-based diet has been shown to improve health. Most athletic records have been set by those abstaining from animal products. If eating animals made us healthy and fit, we would see athletes pouring out of restaurants with high amounts of flesh foods. Rather, that's where we see the highest number of overweight and obese patrons.
Health conditions such as atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes, high rates of cancer, {{etc}} can all be linked back to the consumption of animal based foods. Most are these have been scientifically proven as easily reversible too by taking on a whole food plant based diet. We are killing ourselves by killing our {{companions, neighbors, the animals}}.
It's Better For Them
No longer dominating animals means they'll be allowed to breed at their natural rates, greatly reducing the amount of them, and greatly reducing the possible suffering of them at human hands through forced impregnation, mutilation such as de-beaking {{more examples}}, harvesting {{ milking }}, stealing their young ones from their mothers, and ultimately their painful and gory slaughter.
It's Better For Our World
Rather than growing enough food to feed the billions of humans, we'll no longer need to grow the food used to feed the hundreds of billions of livestock. The time and energy used for doing such can instead be used for distributing the resources to the millions of humans who are starving or malnourished.
It Stops Us From Doing It To Ourselves
Have you ever looked into child trafficking? Do you know how many people go missing every year? Do you ever wonder why people would do that to each other?
It's hypothesized by many scholars, old and new, that because we learned to do it to other species and it was only a matter of time that we started doing it to ourselves too. Examples include {{ socrates? plato? Dr. Will Tuttle, etc}}.
This is the harsh reality we live in. The exploitation of animals is a brainwashing taught from generation to generation and slowly degrades the moral boundaries of what is okay to do to each other.
