My apps are now available via an F-Droid repository!
Obtainium is my preffered way (see instructions below), but some may like the simplicity of using an app store like F-Droid.
My apps do get updates, too! Infinite Timer and Carb Up! got quite a few updates last year to avoid deprecation by newer Android versions as well as received multiple bug fixes and UI enhancements.

All you have to do is imagine yourself in the animal's position and it clearly and immediately ceases to be okay.
> Being stuck in a pen, unable to roam for miles as you would in Nature. Being forced into sexual intercourse with strangers in order to prolong and spread the sex ring. Being fed processed food, scraps, and likely not from many items that you would forage yourself if you were in your natural environment. Likely bored, only getting attention when it benefits the human(s) responsible for your "care".
So, below are some of the specific reasons regarding why I feel that "ranching", and sometimes even pet "ownership", is wrong and immoral.
## 1. I do not condone *slavery* / "ownership".
Most people do not see "having pets" or "owning animals" as slavery. We have been conditioned from very young ages to see other animal life as inferior. Christians are taught that **dominion** means ***domination***. We are taught that other species would not survive without us. That we are doing the world a favor by "taking care of" these "lesser" species and that we are "good" for doing so. Not to mention the fact that we somehow *need* their products, including their flesh, in order to survive or be healthy.
Ideas exist such as animals needing humans to milk them otherwise their utters would get infected or somehow cause damage to the being, without recognizing that it's because the humans stole the babies that the issue occurs, or that humans bred the species to produce more milk which casued it to be like that in the first place. As with most things in today's society, folks do not seek the root cause of the issue, they simply analyze things at the surface level in order to justify their immoral behavior.
## 2. I do not help others offload their responsibilities.
If someone else has chosen to engage in owning livestock or pets, that is a choice they have made. If they are unable to care for the being, such as when on vacation, it's proper to find someone to aid them. Some may be open to doing this, even as a vegan. I see it more as if I were to be condoning their behavior. I do not feel moral when helping others to enslave other beings, allowing them to go on and do other things while I accept the consequences of their immoral choice.
## 3. Helping care for the critters allows the animal "owner" to justify having more.
Compounding on helping offload the responsibilities, by directly aiding in the care and maintenance of the non-human animals, it frees up time for the "owner". This allows them to consider whether they want to expand their operation. Whether it be more chickens for eggs, goats for milk, dogs for breeding, or whatever animal for whatever purpose, once someone has gotten into the livestock industry they tend to want to expand it, especially if profit is on their mind.
## 4. The non-human animals are not truly getting their needs met.
If I was to be put in charge for the animals, given any responsibility for them at all, then I would feel charged to take full responsibility and liberate them. If I am to be their caretaker, and I am tasked with aiding them in some way, then I will fulfill my moral duty to get them to some sort of situation where they can exist as free as possible.
## Conclusion
So, what would my preference be, should all the non-human animals be let go into the wild? What s my solution? What should be done?
They should have never been bred to begin with. That would be my solution. The problem isn't that the animals would decimate Nature, or that there isn't enough space for them to all be free, it's that they were bred by humans in such unnatural states to begin with. My solution is solving the root cause. Bringing up the surface level issues and any of their solutions just feels ignorant to the entire issue itself.
Stop considering slavery acceptable, stop the sex rings (breeding), and stop the exploitation. Then we can work on creating rescues and other operations to treat the beings with as much kindness as possible. But until minds are changed, and the breeding and trading stops, then more and more beings will be spawned in order to fill people's bodies with poison and their pockets with currency, and the rescues and sanctuaries would have more and more work cut out for them.
## Sidenote to Inhumanity, Responsibility Shifting, Guilt Tripping, etc.
Whether you are vegan or not, and someone else is "making you feel responsible" for a situation, such as saying that it is inhumane / immoral / etc of you to not help care for their animals, this is likely a form of deflecting, blame-shifting, projecting, or even gaslighting, and should be considered extremely toxic behavior.
Even if it's feeding their pet while they're at work, you are not responsible for their decisions, and while it may help the nonhuman animal in captivity, it allows the "owner" to get away with being irresponsible by putting that responsibility onto you. If you do not feel comfortable with the situation, assert your boundary and work to void the social or physical contract.
If it causes strife in the friendship then it may not be a friendship which serves you to begin with. This is way easier said than done, so best of luck. it may be difficult initially but you'll likely be thanking yourself in the long run. Being a good steward is one thing, and being stuck in people-pleasing and codependent behavior is another.
> (I would go so far as to say that this also applies to humans as well, such as family or friends who are ill [usually of their own accord, but not always], and expect you to take care of them, possibly because they at some point cared for you. Guilt-tripping is toxic and you do not owe anyone anything, unless you have explicitly promised them such a thing.)
If you are caught in such a situation and feel you could use support, try looking into domestic and narcissistic abuse resources. Whether it be watching videos, calling a hotline, or seeking a therapist, there is help out there to free yourself from harmful entities.
Thank you for caring for yourself enough to do so! :)

## Introduction
### Problem Statement
I've always heard people complain about `systemd` and now have recently become aware of just how bad it's actually getting [[TBD: alpha nerd's video on them adding birthdate for age restrictions]], so I've decided to move to `OpenRC` as my init system.
Currently I'm using `Debian Trixie` and `GNOME` enhanced with extensions and `dconf` hacks as my desktop environment (DE). I also have `DWM` installed and configured, and use it from time to time, but it's not as easy and convenient as how personalized my `GNOME` setup has become.
Both `Debian` and `GNOME` have hard ties to the `systemd` ecosystem, so both will be ripped out before we're fully free of the corruption. Devuan does allow using GNOME, but I refuse to be a part of any software that takes part in ***KYC*** such as ***age restrictions***!
### Debian Silliness
I've also noticed that `Debian` may be blocking VPN users, as while doing my research for this prokject I've continued getting "`Forbidden - <p>You are not allowed to access this!</p>`" from anything related to `wiki.debian.org`.
That'd be a shame, and has me considering Artix for any future installs as I used to **LOVE** using `Arch Linux` but it did not support my old Macbook's WiFi driver very well. At some point I'll have to test if that's still the case, but for now distro hopping does not feel needed.
`Arch` has an extensive wiki, probably the best known in the Linux community. It is useful for people who aren;t even on Arch-based distros. Debian's is okay, and has definitely had some helpful articles for me in the past. Devuan is a smaller project than both so I'm not expecting it to try to compete with those.
## First Things First!
Please ensure you are following this guide from an updated system. Installing large amounts of packages on an outdated system can cause system instability.
```console
# apt update && apt upgrade
```
## Swapping Desktop Environments
[[TBD The first thing needed is to drop `GNOME`, so its replacement will need installed.]]
### Cinnamon
After testing a few DE's, I ended up choosing Cinnamon to be my "polished" choice while I work on getting DWM to support things like volume and brightness control keys. It handles the trackpad gestures I'm used to and "just works" without being too bloated.
I also chose to go with `lightdm` over `sddm` for simplicity plus I'm familiar with it. `sddm` seemed a little too fancy and did not have an aestetic I liked in the default configuration. I just want to log on to my system and be productive, not spend too much extra time beautifying it.
```console
# apt install task-cinnamon-display lightdm
```
### LXQt
Initially I thought to go with `LXQt` since it's a full-fledged DE with very minimal system requirements. Sounds great for battery life! Unfortunately it did not support basic trackpad gestures like two fingers to double click, special keys for brightness / volume, and felt a bit lacking in keyboard shortcuts like Super to open the Start Menu.
I'd rather get my DWM working than have another DE which I need to learn and configure. I was more looking for something simple that didn't need any additional setup out of the box. It didn't seem bad, otherwise. Just more work than I was looking for.

- {{% external-link "Source for this section : linuxcapable.com/how-to-install-lxqt-on-debian-linux" "https://linuxcapable.com/how-to-install-lxqt-on-debian-linux/" %}}
#### Full Experience
I went with the full desktop task since this was my first introduction to the DE and I wanted the full experience. Even with all its bloat, it still comes **nowhere near** the size of `GNOME`.
```console
# apt install task-lxqt-desktop
```
#### Lean Experience
For a leaner approach which may not provide as full of an experience, the metapackage `lxqt` can be installed on its own.
```console
# apt install lxqt sddm
### Switch DM's
The desktop manager (DM) is what allows you to log in to a desktop environment (DE). By default `GNOME` ships with its own, `gdm`, and we're going to switch to `sddm`.
If `apt` did not ask you to switch from `gdm` to `sddm`, you'll need to run the command below.
```console
sudo dpkg-reconfigure sddm
```
## Notes on other DE's
I'll likely be installing a few other DE's as well, but just needed something as a stepping stone and LXQt fir that well. Below are a few other ideas of what you could try.
**KDE**
While researching alternatives DE's I was shocked to read that `KDE` is actually smaller and more efficient now than `GNOME`. Back it the day `KDE` was an extreme hog, I avoided it as it seemed to be tracking how inefficiently *Microsoft* did their *Windows* DE. Cool to hear they've improved!!
**Other Popular Choices**
`Cinnamon` also seems to be a cool choice, and was my runner up (guide bekow). I've never much liked `XFCE`, something about the menu and settings layout has always seemed unintuitive to me. `MATE` is okay but is based on an old version of `GNOME` and I'm not a fan as it always felt like it took up too much screen real estate.
Here's a link as well to a list of a lot of popular desktop environments. I am not recommending Fedora -- they're a decent OS but they will and always will support `systemd` since *Red Hat* is very much into the enterprise world.
- {{% external-link "Examples of other DE's : fedoraproject.org/spins" "https://fedoraproject.org/spins/" %}}
**Tiling WM's**
Tiling window managers are really fun if you haven't given them a chance. I've used `i3` and liked it, but ended up going to `DWM` for one reason or another. Maybe just because of how tiny the system is and how easy it is to configure. I've heard really great things about `openbox` too!
## Init System - OpenRC
## Package Repos - Devuan
To ensure compatibility with a systemd-free setup, I opted to migrate from Debian Trixie to Devuan Excalibur.
## Remove `systemd` Junk
```console
# apt purge task-gnome-desktop gnome gnome-shell gnome-extras
# apt purge systemd
# apt autoremove --purge

- Camping can be difficult to access and noisy, especially on weekends.

## Summary
This was one of the most beautiful canyons I have ever explored. There's good hiking, unique hot springs, and likely climbing as I did some "bouldering" in some areas just for fun.
The industrial quality of the initial creek area is slightly off-putting, expecially with the machinery noise, and the amount of dogs was slightly alarming, but they posed no danger and none of it was a concern once I made my way further down the road.

Morenci is a bit out of the ways from the rest of Arizona. Getting to the hot springs is pretty easy though.

In a beautiful wooded setting between cliffs sitting next to a stream, this is the only pool that I did not get into. Upon inspection the muddy bottom mixed up into the water a bit too much to justify giving myself a mud bath. It also felt hotter than my preferences. Its surroundings definitely give it appeal though!

- Pump station is loud if choosing to camp before any water crossings.
- Lots of dog noise from nearby properties, day and night, echoing though the campgrounds.
- Driving through the creek can be deep in some spots, but high clearance vehicles should be fine.
I spent the most time in this spacious pool. The water is warm towards the front and even warmer near the back, if ye dare enter the darkness! Or bring a head lamp and explore like I did in the video above. I'd guess the tunnel goes back about 100ft. It then turns left and ends abruptly, or at least that's how it seems...!
### Recommendations
Shining a light around the bottom of the water reveals that the tunnel actually starts heading down, and there are stairs going left towards the entrance as well as right to head deeper back. The water is a very comfortable temperature, someone with scuba gear may be able to have fun exploring the water-filled caverns below!
- Drive as close as you can to the hot springs.
- I saw an unlifted Tacoma and 4Runner make it there no problem.
- I took my van to the first water crossing after the large camping area. After that I did not want to risk anymore since my runner boards hang low. (TBD, -TBD)
### Frog Cave
The best temperature for me was found in this pool. Unfortunately this is the smallest and most vertically challenged soaking area. Wearing my hair in a bun proved difficult and caused my sitting position to be a bit uncomfortable.
The sound of the trickling water and the frog who'd come visit occasionally continued bringing me back though. Shorter humans or those without bulky hair would likely enjoy the experience in here much more than I. The view out the cave is absolutely incredible, as demonstrated at the end of the first video.
## Scenery
### Waterfalls
I found two pretty cool waterfalls to hang around. The taller one was near the outside pool and a smaller but more active one was near the mine shaft pool. That one has a ledge you can climb to get to the top of it. I didn't notice much of a trail after that, but it could be fun to explore someday to find the spring head.
## Reception
- AT&T worked great and had LTE.
- T-Mobile had cell reception but no LTE/data.

## Conclusion
It was a neat area to visit for sure. Some pros and cons as with many places. The camping experience isn't ideal, and there aren't really many services nearby, but if you're heading from Alpine to warmer weather or simply visiting the area and wanting to soak in new place, this definitely seems worth visiting for a few weekdays before continuing your journey.

## Ingredients
- 1/2 cabbage
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar (ACV)
- 1 cup water
## Description
A cooked cabbage which still has great texture and an added acidity. Can be eaten alone as a salad or as a side next to a main dish. Goes great with staples without strong flavors such as rice or tofu.
## Directions
1. Quarter a cabbage, putting half away if not wanting to double the recipe.
1. Cut each quarter into very thin slices.
1. Add to pressure cooker with the ACV and water.
1. Stir roughly, then close and set to Steam - Less (high pressure, 3 minutes).
1. Allow to cook and release pressure naturally.
1. Enjoy! :)

There's plenty more that can be said about dreadlocks, such as their symbology of Freedom, and plenty more tips to be given about Natural Living such as lack of soaps / lotions / deodorant / etc (keep your skin microbiome healthy!!), but this serves as a good introduction to how I see things.

**Healing Chronic Pain - Why I Relearned to Walk**

I speak about the knee pain I used to experience, how I was giving it to myself after an old cycling injury, and how advice on healing chronic pain through proper walking stride ended up resolving it completely.

I knew I could do the hike, so I added the challenge of carrying 30oz of food, 2.5L of water, and some tools, but not using any of it. Also did some trail running (parkour) on the way down since it seemed like a fun trail for it.

**Societal Obsessions, Let's Talk About Feces!**
Have you ever stopped and noticed how much human society interacts with the feces of other animals? And even more oddly, how they try to brand and sometimes sell it as having beneficial properties?
While not all the information is false, I feel it is highly exaggerated and to a degree which is unsafe if the manure is not properly processed first, such as long-term composting.
