All you have to do is imagine yourself in the animal's position and it clearly and immediately ceases to be okay.
> Being stuck in a pen, unable to roam for miles as you would in Nature. Being forced into sexual intercourse with strangers in order to prolong and spread the sex ring. Being fed processed food, scraps, and likely not from many items that you would forage yourself if you were in your natural environment. Likely bored, only getting attention when it benefits the human(s) responsible for your "care".
So, below are some of the specific reasons regarding why I feel that "ranching", and sometimes even pet "ownership", is wrong and immoral.
## 1. I do not condone *slavery* / "ownership".
Most people do not see "having pets" or "owning animals" as slavery. We have been conditioned from very young ages to see other animal life as inferior. Christians are taught that **dominion** means ***domination***. We are taught that other species would not survive without us. That we are doing the world a favor by "taking care of" these "lesser" species and that we are "good" for doing so. Not to mention the fact that we somehow *need* their products, including their flesh, in order to survive or be healthy.
Ideas exist such as animals needing humans to milk them otherwise their utters would get infected or somehow cause damage to the being, without recognizing that it's because the humans stole the babies that the issue occurs, or that humans bred the species to produce more milk which casued it to be like that in the first place. As with most things in today's society, folks do not seek the root cause of the issue, they simply analyze things at the surface level in order to justify their immoral behavior.
## 2. I do not help others offload their responsibilities.
If someone else has chosen to engage in owning livestock or pets, that is a choice they have made. If they are unable to care for the being, such as when on vacation, it's proper to find someone to aid them. Some may be open to doing this, even as a vegan. I see it more as if I were to be condoning their behavior. I do not feel moral when helping others to enslave other beings, allowing them to go on and do other things while I accept the consequences of their immoral choice.
## 3. Helping care for the critters allows the animal "owner" to justify having more.
Compounding on helping offload the responsibilities, by directly aiding in the care and maintenance of the non-human animals, it frees up time for the "owner". This allows them to consider whether they want to expand their operation. Whether it be more chickens for eggs, goats for milk, dogs for breeding, or whatever animal for whatever purpose, once someone has gotten into the livestock industry they tend to want to expand it, especially if profit is on their mind.
## 4. The non-human animals are not truly getting their needs met.
If I was to be put in charge for the animals, given any responsibility for them at all, then I would feel charged to take full responsibility and liberate them. If I am to be their caretaker, and I am tasked with aiding them in some way, then I will fulfill my moral duty to get them to some sort of situation where they can exist as free as possible.
## Conclusion
So, what would my preference be, should all the non-human animals be let go into the wild? What s my solution? What should be done?
They should have never been bred to begin with. That would be my solution. The problem isn't that the animals would decimate Nature, or that there isn't enough space for them to all be free, it's that they were bred by humans in such unnatural states to begin with. My solution is solving the root cause. Bringing up the surface level issues and any of their solutions just feels ignorant to the entire issue itself.
Stop considering slavery acceptable, stop the sex rings (breeding), and stop the exploitation. Then we can work on creating rescues and other operations to treat the beings with as much kindness as possible. But until minds are changed, and the breeding and trading stops, then more and more beings will be spawned in order to fill people's bodies with poison and their pockets with currency, and the rescues and sanctuaries would have more and more work cut out for them.
## Sidenote to Inhumanity, Responsibility Shifting, Guilt Tripping, etc.
Whether you are vegan or not, and someone else is "making you feel responsible" for a situation, such as saying that it is inhumane / immoral / etc of you to not help care for their animals, this is likely a form of deflecting, blame-shifting, projecting, or even gaslighting, and should be considered extremely toxic behavior.
Even if it's feeding their pet while they're at work, you are not responsible for their decisions, and while it may help the nonhuman animal in captivity, it allows the "owner" to get away with being irresponsible by putting that responsibility onto you. If you do not feel comfortable with the situation, assert your boundary and work to void the social or physical contract.
If it causes strife in the friendship then it may not be a friendship which serves you to begin with. This is way easier said than done, so best of luck. it may be difficult initially but you'll likely be thanking yourself in the long run. Being a good steward is one thing, and being stuck in people-pleasing and codependent behavior is another.
> (I would go so far as to say that this also applies to humans as well, such as family or friends who are ill [usually of their own accord, but not always], and expect you to take care of them, possibly because they at some point cared for you. Guilt-tripping is toxic and you do not owe anyone anything, unless you have explicitly promised them such a thing.)
If you are caught in such a situation and feel you could use support, try looking into domestic and narcissistic abuse resources. Whether it be watching videos, calling a hotline, or seeking a therapist, there is help out there to free yourself from harmful entities.
Thank you for caring for yourself enough to do so! :)

## At a Glance
- Lesser known hot springs in an infrequented region of Arizona.
- Beautiful canyon with riparian flora all along the meandering creek.
- Beautiful canyon with riparian flora all along a meandering creek.
- Camping can be difficult to access and noisy, especially on weekends.
## Summary
This was one of the most beautiful canyons I have ever explored. There's good hiking, unique hot springs, and likely climbing as I did some "bouldering" in some areas just for fun.
The industrial quality of the initial creek area is slightly off-putting, expecially with the machinery noise, and the amount of dogs was slightly alarming, but they posed no danger and none of it was a concern once I made my way further down the road.

I definitely plan to visit again, especially when spending time in eastern New Mexico chasing other hot springs.

## Description
## Access
### Pools
Morenci is a bit out of the ways from the rest of Arizona. Getting to the hot springs is pretty easy though.
There are 3 major pools that I noticed on my visit.
{{% comment "TBD: Verify coordinates with OSMAND, these were guessed from laptop." %}}
#### Outside
1. Navigate to Eagle Creek Road. ~(33.0732134, -109.3770333)
2. Drive down towards the manufacturing area. ~(33.0582122, -109.4397697)
- Low clearance vehicles should park now and walk, driving further involves water crossings.
3. Follow the creek and eventually take an offshoot to the right. ~(33.0464047, -109.4371802)
4. Enjoy the hot springs! ~(33.0468761, -109.4399691)
In a beautiful wooded setting between cliffs sitting next to a stream, this is the only pool that I did not get in. Upon inspection the muddy bottom mixed into the water a bit too much to justify giving myself a mud bath. It also felt hotter than my preferences. Its surroundings definitely give it appeal though!

I spent the most time in this spacious pool. The water is warm towards the front and warmer near the back, if ye dare enter the darkness! Or bring a head lamp and explore. I'd guess the tunnel goes back about 100ft, and then turns left and ends abruptly, or at least that's how it seems.
### Mine Shaft
Shining a light around the bottom of the water reveals that the tunnel actually starts heading down, and there are stairs then going both back towards the entrance as well as further back. The water is a very comfortable temperature, someone with scuba gear may be able to have fun exploring the water-filled caverns below!

##### Frog Cave
{{< external-link

The best temperature for me was found in this pool. Unfortunately this is the smallest and most vertically challenged soaking area. Wearing my hair in a bun proved challenging and caused my sitting position to be a bit uncomfortable. The sound of the trickling water and the frog who'd come visit occasionally continued bringing me back. Shorter humans or those without bulky hair would likely enjoy the experience in here much more than I. The view out the cave is absolutely incredible, as demonstrated at the end of the first video.

### Caveats

- Pump station is loud if choosing to camp before any water crossings.
- Lots of dog noise from nearby properties, day and night, echoing though the campgrounds.
- Driving through the creek can be deep in some spots, but high clearance vehicles should be fine.
### Frog Cave
### Recommendations
The best temperature for me was found in this pool. Unfortunately this is the smallest and most vertically challenged soaking area. Wearing my hair in a bun proved difficult and caused my sitting position to be a bit uncomfortable.
- Drive as close as you can to the hot springs.
- I saw an unlifted Tacoma and 4Runner make it there no problem.
- I took my van to the first water crossing after the large camping area. After that I did not want to risk anymore since my runner boards hang low. (TBD, -TBD)

## Scenery
### Waterfalls
I found two pretty cool waterfalls to hang around. The taller one was near the outside pool and a smaller but more active one was near the mine shaft pool. That one has a ledge you can climb to get to the top of it. I didn't notice much of a trail after that, but it could be fun to explore someday to find the spring head.
## Reception
- AT&T worked great and had LTE.
- T-Mobile had cell reception but no LTE/data.
- Verizon: unknown.

## Conclusion
It was a neat area to visit for sure. Some pros and cons as with many places. The camping experience isn't ideal, and there aren't really many services nearby, but if you're heading from Alpine to warmer weather or simply visiting the area and wanting to soak in new place, this definitely seems worth visiting for a few weekdays before continuing your journey.

**Healing Chronic Pain - Why I Relearned to Walk**
I speak about the knee pain I used to experience, how I was giving it to myself after an old cycling injury, and how advice on healing chronic pain through proper walking stride ended up resolving it completely.

**HCLF Vegan Style!**
I knew I could do the hike, so I added the challenge of carrying 30oz of food, 2.5L of water, and some tools, but not using any of it. Also did some trail running (parkour) on the way down since it seemed like a fun trail for it.

title: "Why I don't help with Animal Care"
started: 2026-05-18T07:00:00-07:00
toc: true
---
All you have to do is imagine yourself in the animal's position and it clearly and immediately ceases to be okay.
Unfortunately most people do not seem to see "having pets" or "owning animals" as slavery. We have been conditioned from very young ages to see other animal life as inferior. Christians are taught that **dominion** means ***domination***. We are taught that other species would not survive without us. That we are doing the world a favor by "taking care of" these "lesser" species and that we are good for doing so. Not to mention the fact that we somehow **need* their products, including their flesh, in order to survive or be healthy.
Ideas exist such as animals needing humans to milk them otherwise their utters would get infected or somehow cause damage to the being, without recognizing that it's because the humans stole the babies that the issue occurs, or that humans bred the species to be like that in the first place. As with most things in today's society, folks do not seek the root cause of the issue, they simply analyze things at the surface level in order to justify their immoral behavior.
## 2. I do not help others ?ɗeflect? their responsibilities.
## 3. Helping care for the critters allows the animal "owner" to justify having more.
By directly aiding in the care and maintenance of the non-human animals, it frees up time for the "owner". This allows them to consider whether they want to expand their operation. Whether it be more chickens for eggs, goats for milk, dogs for ???, or whatever animal for whatever purpose.
## 4. The non-human animals are not truly getting their needs met.
If I was to be put in charge for the amnimals, given any responsibility for them at all, then I would feel charged to take full responsibility and liberate them.
The problem isn't that the animals would decimate Nature, or that there isn't enough space fpr them to all be free, it's that they were allowed to exist in such unnatural states to begin with. My solution is solving the root cause, so bnringing up the surface level issues and their solutions end up just feeling ignorant to the entire issue itself.
Stop considering slavery acceptable, stop the sex rings (breeding), and stop the exploitation. Then we can work on creating rescues and other operations to treat the beings with as much kindness as possible. But until minds are changed, and the breeding and trading stops, then more and more being will be spawned in order to fill people's bodies with poison and their pockets with currency.
## Sidenote to Inhumanity, Responsibility Shifting, Guilt Tripping, etc.
Whether you are vegan or not, and someone else is "making you feel respinsible" for a situation, such as saying that it is inhumane / immoral / etc of you to not help care for their animals, this is likely a form of deflecting, blame-shifting, projecting, or even gaslighting, and should be considered extremely toxic behavior.
Even if it's feeding their pet while they're at work, you are not respoinsible for their decisions, and while it may help the nonhuman animal in captivity, it allows the "owner" to get away with being irresponsible by putting that respionsibility onto you.
Whether it be watchin videos, calling a hotline, or seeking a therapist, there is help out there to free yourself from harmful entities.
Thank you for caring for yourself enough to do so! :)
